Some years ago when I was working for the Bond Corporation, I was in Queensland overseeing construction of the 98 foot company motor vessel Southern Cross; I had to go there for two days, every two weeks.
When my two days was up I flew back to WA on the Sunday midnight rattler for work on Monday. While waiting at the airport I heard a plane landing, I say heard because it was making a lot of weird noises, it was painted red and was covered with aboriginal paintings. I thought to myself, I hope that’s not my plane, but sure enough it was.
The plane landed, we took our seats and I was seated next to an Indian guy in his forties. We got talking and I asked him what he did for a living, he said that he was a label salesman, I asked him how that worked and how he operated. He opened his brief case, and inside were thousands of clothing labels, all top end, he said that he sells these labels which were all counterfeit, to manufacturers of clothing.
We finally landed in Perth at a very high speed, the captain had miscalculated. We hit the middle of the runway and bounced our way past the end and fifty meters onto the grass. The plane had to be towed backwards to the runway. It was a flight to remember and I was thankful to be home safely.
Some time later I was shopping with my wife and she went into a high end shop looking for underwear. I just browsed round looking at jackets etc and found pure wool jackets from New Zealand, known to be their best quality jacket, bearing the top brand and also displaying the “Made In China” label. I searched more and came to the conclusion that all of the stock had the same expensive labeling that the Indian salesman had shown me.
China is not really the flavour of the month in Australia at the moment. China has put a huge tariff on Australian barley, making it virtually impossible for the farmers to make a profit at all. In car yards all over Australia we are selling Great Wall vehicles, made in Chine. Yes they are cheap, but you only get what you pay for. A friend of mine in Geraldton bought a Great Wall ute and whilst we were staying with him he asked me to go into Geraldton with him. The ride into town and back to his property was enough to put me off the Great Wall brand forever. The slightest bump was like driving over a bomb crater, it felt like it had no springs or shock absorbers at all. He sold it within the year, got nothing for it and certainly wouldn’t buy another.
And this is after our Government has given China land in Australia and allowed them to buy businesses, farms etc. Just think back to Cuddy Cuddy station where China was growing rice and they built a bund out into the Murray River and stole huge amounts of water that belonged to farmers down river. Now, I believe that our Government has given China a large area of land up in the Ord area. I cannot believe our Government, what are they thinking. Why are they doing this? I don’t know; nobody knows.
This says it all *****
